Chapter 8 Synopsis

In chapter 8 of “They Snooze, You Lose” Burmark writes on the power of music and how to apply it to our presentations. I am a self professed queen of clip art in PPT. I feel that a little clipart from in a PPT goes along way. Well you can see and feel my dismay when I read Burmark’s comments, “The key as an educator or presenter is to select music intentionally. You don’t impose gratuitous music the way some Power Point presenters slap on dorky clipart” (Burmark, 2011). Oops! This week’s assignment with Go Animate works well with this week’s reading. I have always enjoyed a presentation with a good musical score and I forgot how much music an evoke emotions until working on the Go Animate assignment. Burmark speaks about our emotional reaction to music throughout chapter 8, but as it relates to my work I just did not realize that “any” music was not the same as music “intentionally” selected music. I have always come from the school of thought some music is better than no music. My mind has been completely enlightened. References Burmark, L. (2011).
