Web 2.0 Tools

1.   Name of tool - Google Docs
·         Prior experience - I have worked in Google docs for work.  I work remotely, so I have to use Google Docs to collaborate with my teams.
·         Pre-impression (after readings) - I think Google Docs is a wonderful feature, and I am glad that Google added it to its offerings.
·         Post-impression (after assignment) - I continue to think Google Docs is a very collaborative tool.
·         Possible personal use - I could see my sister and I using the tool to plan a family trip, and we want to share information regarding cost, etc...
·         Possible professional use- I use Google Docs to work with my teams at work.  A great example is this course migration project.  We are moving our e-learning courses to a new platform updating the spreadsheet on Google Docs so we can track changes and not loose a version via email.
·         Most engaging feature - I appreciate the tracking feature and the fact that you can revert back to that change on the document at anytime.
·         Most aggravating feature - The thing I am not of fan of is that the person you are collaborating with must have a Google account.
·         Comparable tool you like better / why? - I have not used another collaboration tool like this, maybe SharePoint.  I enjoy Google Docs because it is more collaborative.

2.   Name of tool - VoiceThread
·         Prior experience - none
·         Pre-impression (after readings) - It seemed as though it was just a tool to leave audio comments.
·         Post-impression (after assignment) - It is a little more than a tool leave comments, you can also present to an audience.
·         Possible personal use - I could see using this to share family vacation moments or pictures.
·         Possible professional use- Being a remote employee, I could use VT when I need to present trainings.
·         Most engaging feature - I like the fact that people can leave written or audio comments.
·         Most aggravating feature - I do not like that you can only have all the features like audio/music imported from your PPT unless you have a plus account.
·         Comparable tool you like better / why? - I feel like this is almost like posting a PPT FB or Blogger and having people make comments.
3.   Name of tool- Go Animate
·         Prior experience - none
·         Pre-impression (after readings) – I was worried because I thought I was not a director or a screenwriter, but it was very easy.
·         Post-impression (after assignment) – Fun and cute.
·         Possible personal use – I like the idea of creating cute cartoons with my daughter.
·         Possible professional use – You could create videos for remote learners to help reinforce lessons or create group presentations using animated characters (virtually)
·         Most engaging feature - all of the well animated characters
·         Most aggravating feature - all of the really neat features cost money
·         Comparable tool you like better or not as well / why? - I would assume any tool that allows you to edit video.  I am not familiar with these types of tools.

4.   Name of tool – Pintrest
·         Prior experience - none
·         Pre-impression (after readings) – I thought it was like it was just another MySpace.
·         Post-impression (after assignment) – There is a lot more you can do with Pintrest. Not only show interesting recopies, but educational information.
·         Possible personal use -  I would continue to create my board and posts information about eLearning.
·         Possible professional use - You could create a "virtual poster board" that represents the student or organizing homework post and articles from students.
·         Most engaging feature - how integrated it is with today's web
·         Most aggravating feature - not much interaction outside of comments
·         Comparable tool you like better or not as well / why? - Diigo, and because in both cases you are "bookmarking" something you like.  I prefer Diigo for educational purposes.  It has more features

5.   Name of tool - Flickr
·         Prior experience - none
·         Pre-impression (after readings) - I knew it was going to be used for picture sharing.
·         Post-impression (after assignment) - I thought it was easy to use.
·         Possible personal use - I would 100% use this to back up digital pictures and share with family.
·         Possible professional use- I could see my art department sending me the graphics to be used in the new course via Flickr.
·         Most engaging feature - How quickly you can upload pictures.
·         Most aggravating feature - I did not see a way to create groups so I could organize pictures.
·         Comparable tool you like better / why? - Walgreens Photo Center, I can upload pictures and share them with family and friends.
6.   Name of tool - Diigo
·         Prior experience - none
·         Pre-impression (after readings) - I thought it was a "news article" version of Pintrest.
·         Post-impression (after assignment) - I think this is the tool I have found the least use for. It was a bit too much for me to take in, and I did not feel the value.
·         Possible personal use - I could see myself possibly creating a group for my book club, where we could share reviews etc...of the books we are reading.
·         Possible professional use - Our SMEs and our teachers could use this for research.  I found a lot of good articles on e-learning.
·         Most engaging feature - The ability to create groups.
·         Most aggravating feature - I did not feel like the tool was user friendly.  I like to add personal touches to my pages, and you could not do this with this tool.
·         Comparable tool you like better / why? - I compared it to my Firefox bookmarking tool.  I cannot highlight or make sticky notes with FF so i would have to say I enjoy Diigo.

7.   Name of tool- Screenr
·         Prior experience - none
·         Pre-impression (after readings) - I thought it was another screen capture tool.
·         Post-impression (after assignment) - I thought it was an interesting way to share information with people via video.
·         Possible personal use - I could see this being used to show my mom how to access something on her computer without driving to her house.
·         Possible professional use- Anyone who needs to present information from a remote location, could use this tool for work.
·         Most engaging feature - I like the fact that you can embed video or share the video instantly.
·         Most aggravating feature - I think I remember a video limit.
·         Comparable tool you like better / why? - This reminds me of Jing, which I like better.  Jing also has a limit on time, but it has more tools that you can use to show viewers what you want them to focus on.
